TOO MUCH MAKEUP ??? ACNE?? ALTERED BODY IMAGE !!!

Every ladies night mare is acne or pimple or spots.

Every girl wants to have a blemish-free face and look spotless but this doesn't happen all the time.

85% of people both male and female between ages 12 and 25 develop acne.

Acne is a common condition that is now considered as part of puberty. It is a condition of the skin that shows up as different types of bumps (white heads, blackhead, pimples, cysts) which gradually goes away as you get older.

CAUSES:
  • Unknown
  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • Hormonal changes in menstrual cycle, Androgen hormones which increases during pregnancy or intake of birth control pills.
  • Food Allergies
  • Inadequate skin care
  • Side effect of medications
  • Picking or squeezing of blemishes
  • Harsh scrubbing with sponge
  • Makeup

The most common type of acne is the ACNE VULGARIS - This means that the acne shows up on the face, neck, shoulders, upper back, chest.

Development of Acne: Our hair follicles contains sebacuos gland that produces oil called sebum. This oil helps to lubricate and moisturize the skin. As the body begins to develop, more sebum are released. Skin pores could get clogged up and dead skin cells are trapped resulting to redness and swelling.

How do I feel when I get a break out;

  1. Depressed
  2. Low self esteem and altered body Image
  3. Wearing heavy makeup
  4. Wear long hair to cover
  5. Loss of appetite
  6. Social withdrawal due to negative appraisal from people "Hey what is wrong with your face"
  7. "Buy all syndrome": this one na real problem for woman ooo, any thing wey dem see and they hear say na for pimple they must to buy shaaa....when it comes to this girl no dey broke at all... Nne, biko, less is better.

What can I do to prevent ACNE:

  • Bath /Wash face at least twice a day and pat dry with clean towel
  • Do not scrub with sponge..this is rather harsh for the face
  • Always wash your cosmetic brush once a week...hmmm this one, I cannot even shout some sisters don't even wash at all and our dear make up artist please try cleaning with antiseptic wipes before you use for another customer
  • Choose concelear with Salicyclic Acid
  • Choose make up that are NON COMEDOGENIC
  • Try keeping your hair away from your face
  • Change bed linens and pillow cases regularly- this is a potent carrier of Germs
  • Cut back on foods like cow milk, sugar and white pastas e.g white bread.- These food increases insulin level which encourages more production of sebum. *wink*
