BODY ODOUR....hmmmmm

Body Odour is a perceived unpleasant smell from the body that gives off when bacteria that lives on the skin break down into acid.

Acetic acid found in the mouth is an example and it is produced by bacteria fermentation that produces a sour and pungent smell.

Body Odour becomes evident when human reaches puberty from 14- 17 years in both male and female.

Research has it that the women smell more than the men...am not sure I agree with this and am also not trying to be a feminist.

Sweating is a natural thing and it doesn't come with odour but deposition of bacteria growth causes the smell. it is important to sweat because sweating is a cooling mechanism for the body and helps to eliminate toxins- but be clean

Causes :

- Spicy food, i bet you never knew that spicy food making you sweat an bring about body odour if personal hygiene is fair. as well as Garlic and onion

- Intake of caffeine and alcohol causes excessive sweating and bad breath

- Uncontrolled Diabetes causes the release of ketone bodies, the persons breathe becomes fruity and a pungent smell is present.

- Poor hygiene/ Damp cloth/moist feet/Over wear and under-wash of bras and pants.

- Infections such as candia and athlete foot.

- Thyroid problems: Over active Thyroid causes excessive sweating.

- Kidney and liver disease (end stage kidney diseases):  because the kidneys and liver is unable to eliminate toxins and waste product.

- Obesity

- Stress: stress produces sweat in the Apocrine gland (one of the major gland on the skin)

- Genetic Disorder: ever heard that his classmate has had body odour way back from primary school?... maybe a genetic disorder known as TRIMETHYLAMINURIA.-A chemical that causes fishy smell, when not broken down can cause body odour

How can  I prevent or avoid having body odour:

  • Reduce spicy food if they make you sweat
  • Eat food high in fiber e.g Oats and apples, they help you reduce fats and sweat and manage body odour
  • Try to be clean but  dont get yourself obsessed with it
  • Always towel dry after a bath, keep body and feet less moist, wash underarms, groins and feet
  • Change sanitaries as often as 2-3 times daily
  • Change socks regularly
  • Wear clean cloth always
  • Reduce sugar or sweet food, bacteria likes to feed on them
  • Treat any exiting infection
  • Shave often, use underarm deo
  • Use antibacterial soap
