When your breast milk won't flow

I will like to share a discussion from a client and how young mothers can address such issue.

When you can't produce milk from your breast.:

A breast feeding mum has defeated cancer by 30%. That would mean that by exclusively breast feeding not only keeps your baby strong and alert but also keeps you 30% beyond cancer.

While breast feeding your baby and you notice the breast milk doesn't  flow it is best that you alternate feeding with both breast fully padding the nipple and the areola (the brownish or dark area surrounding the nipple) in the baby's mouth.

This will stimulate flow of milk to the breast and also prevent breast engorgement  (fullness of the breast which comes with pain), cracked nipples which can cause infections. Constant introduction of the non flowing part to the baby's mouth will gradually stimulate milk flow.

What to do when your nipples are cracked: a simple petroleum jelly does the magic, Apply morning and night to soothe area of the nipples, always keep dry after breast feeding and avoid wet brassiere.

A healthy mum is a healthy family.
